2wd lift kit
Ok so i know that this is a popular topic and my ?'s have most likely all been answered. and i know that fab tech used to make one for the 73-87 trucks. . but i figure the worst anyone could say is no they still dont make one or no-no one has one. I wanna know if there is ANY manufacturers out there who make a lift kit for the 67-72 2wd trucks?? or does anyone have one that they are willing to sell me?
thanks guys in whatever happens. Devil Dog.

Re: 2wd lift kit
Do you want to lift up the body only or a kit on the suspension?
You can get a body lift kit by using taller mounts like those used on a 4x4.. |

Re: 2wd lift kit
are you saying that 88-98 spindles will bolt up to our year and in turn I could use a lift for that year??

Re: 2wd lift kit
Please don't tell me you want to build a ghetto-a$$ed "DONK" with your truck! However, given the nature of the 2wd IFS setup- it will be challenging to develop a lift that is strong and safe. Simply swapping out to late model spindles won't do anything because, if I recall, the '88+ C/K 1500's use a torsion bar front IFS setup which is completely different then our control arm system. Bottom line is you will need to fab some brackets or maybe an entirely new cross member that moves the control arms down and then install taller springs and shocks. You'll probably have to do a drop pitman arm as well.
I suggest checking out any "Urban" themed car mag or website and see what fools are doing to donk-i-fy their Impalas, Cutty's, Regals, etc....it would be the same basic concept. As far a a lucrative market for such a "kit" is concerned, I'm skeptical that there would be much demand for it...but my opinion should not stop you from giving it a shot.

Re: 2wd lift kit
I guess the question is - are you going for the funny looking DONK look, or are you going for a pre-runner style truck?
If it's a donk, then ghetto fab away..... (eliminate the shocks, springs, etc. just weld up solid bars & drop the crossmember down) If you are looking for a pre-runner style setup (like Belltech and others have sold for later model trucks) you may want to look into seeing if the 73+ version will work on your truck. I'm kind of curious as well as I have always liked pre-runner style trucks, 2wd, lift & plenty of suspension travel. |

Re: 2wd lift kit
This topic has been addressed at length before. The 73-87 Fabtech control arms will bolt up to our trucks and give you plenty of lift. They are not produced anymore, though. However, you sometimes see them used. Nobody makes a 2wd lift kit for our trucks. However, you can use a ball joint spacer designed for 73 and up trucks. I have one made by Fabtech and it fits fine. Fabtech does not make them anymore (I believe) but they and others still seem to have some left as I just bought mine on Ebay recently. Also use a ultra low profile bump stop on the upper arm. You can also then buy front lift coils for the 73 and up trucks. I have those, too, and they are almost identical to the coils on our trucks. Mine are about 1.5 inches longer than stock but lift the front about 3 inches. The rear coils can be lifted with round aluminum spacers sold by Global West or on Ebay. OR, you can switch to 88-98 ball joints and use an aftermarket lift spindle designed for use with the 88-98 trucks. Others have gone this route for more lift and it allows you to swap to discs in the front, too. I believe you may have to switch to the 3/4 ton lower arm to fit the proper ball joint, can't remember for sure though. Do a more thorough search on here and you should find more info.
To answer your last question, it would seem to not make sense to make your own kit because the interest for one is minimal and the cost of a patent is very high. You would need to hire a patent attorney to actually do it right and get approval. Also, Fabtech has already made one that works on our trucks. It would be better to buy a used set of Fabtech arms or buy their patterns/jig from them, if available. Also, there may be other companies out there that make a kit for the 73 and up that would fit our trucks. Last edited by mclairmo; 06-03-2010 at 01:08 PM. |

Re: 2wd lift kit
thanks a ton for all the info guys. and to answer the question, why would i build a donk and disgrace the chevy name?? all the rest of you are right i want a pre runner style. like this one . . .. . . fab tech kits are near to impossible to find now. and ive done the coil spring spacer and just not happy with it. so i have a 3/4 ton. would the 88-98 lift spindle most likely bolt directly up to my system?

Re: 2wd lift kit
If I remember the story right......the 88 - 98 spindles were for the 1/2 ton 5 lug truck. 92 - 99 spindles are for the 3/4 ton. to my knowedge. the 92 - 99 spindles have not been done yet on a 8 lug truck. If it has, I've been waiting to see what part combo they used
