Re: identify my cab
need more pics... all over the cab, there are a few indicators that help possibly pinpoint a year (firewall, rear window, e-brake, cab lights, under gas tank, gas tank itself etc..)

Re: identify my cab
The 71 72's I've had, had the big one piece vin tag.

Re: identify my cab
'72 was the only cab to have the rear view mirror glued to the windshield. So if it has no holes over the center of the windshield... It's prolly a '72.

Re: identify my cab
Doesn't appear to be a 71-72' as they all have a cab vent below the vin I believe. Take a picture of the rear view mirror area. Also, take a pic of the parking brake. My gut is telling me it's a 70' cab. Trevor

Re: identify my cab
if there is a date code on the firewall as stated it might be the only way to narrow it down to a specific year, not a 67-68 and it appears to have had a single large VIN plate... I guess 72

Re: identify my cab
Well, I still call a 70'. The final give away is the rear view mirror mounting. You can automatically rule out 67-68 because of the ebrake handle. 71' is the only year to have a raised pad for the rear view mirror to mount too on the ceiling. 72 mounts on the windshield and will not have holes where earlier types would mount on the ceiling. I am only ruling out the 71-72 because of the air vent, like I said, below the vin plates. This was typically found on most if not all 71-72 cabs because of the different style gas tank in the cab. If you get a shot of the rear view mirror area, that will be the tall tell signal. Trevor

Re: identify my cab
Another clue is what type of gas pedal. The 71- 72 used a cable gas pedal and the weld nuts were on the outside of the firewall and the pedal atached to the lever. The 70 and older used the rod gas pedal that the pedal mounted to the floor pan and the 3 screws that held in the lever have the nuts or threading inside on the firewall.

Re: identify my cab
Your truck is a 69-70, the fuse box changed in 69 to verticle, the double vin tags are a 69 thing, 70 uses a one piece tag. Your truck is a 69.

Re: identify my cab
It's a 2010 piece of illegal contraband, it is against Federal Law to remove the VIN tag....and they don't take "reasons" for making it OK.
If you don't have the VIN tag, there is really no point in knowing whay year is was....There is no way to make this thing "Legal" with an old title. You might get by with having it inspected and titled as "self assembled", but here in Ohio, the Highway Patrol would give you some serious scrutiny. They would want proof of where it came from....and who removed the VIN. That is why most sellers of such things want nothing to do with it once it's gone....

Re: identify my cab
1970
70 was the first year for the one piece VIN tag, and the last year for the floor mounted throttle. |
