Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
I've got 2500 I get to spend building my 350. It is a 94 model block bored .030 stock heads stock cam etc. Currently running just fine and I'd kinda like to leave the bottom end alone. (only about 6K miles on the motor) It is not a daily driver just a grocery getter and weekend cruiser but I'd just really like to be able to take it to the track and have fun with it. The 94 350 stock came with like 195 horse and I guarantee mine doesn't have any more than that. So if you had a stock running engine and 2500 to spend on it what would YOU do? It can be as wild as 2500 can make it. It has a 350 trans and 3.73 gears.

Aluminum heads and headers...
Or...pull the motor and sell it, take the cash and add it to the $2500 and buy the 400 horse YearOne crate 350 for $3000. |

Heads, cam, intake, exhaust and the most over looked piece of the puzzle... the touq converter.

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
Vortec heads and aluminum intake to match.Performance cam with hi rev lifters and true roller chain. depending on what you have now performance carb ,distributor, and headers.easy 350 hp and with 700 r and 373 will have hole shot and top end. for good street driving I would use performer rpm and 650 cfm carb

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
TFS-K315-465-450 <--- Search it at Summit. It says Trick Flow claims 465 hp with this setup. You'd still have some change left for some headers.

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
oh yeah I have headers already. Keep the ideas coming guys... any sizes/brands on cams? what about heads?
I looked at the trick flow package and I must say I like it. What size stall will i need to get with something like that? Also how will my vacuum be for my brakes etc? I also use an air conditioner and I'm wondering if it will still idle with it on? I guess I didn't think you could build it that big with that amount of money so maybe I should say the limit is as big as possible that i can still enjoy driving it with the wife riding with me. I agree with other post about selling the one you got and buy a new crate.

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
Put your money into aluminum heads and the valve train, including cam and timing chain.I`d go inside and run flat top pistons to bring the compression up to suit the heads, though. If not,I`m not sure the aluminum heads will give much benefit.I have $1,300 into a total rebuild with factory 64cc heads.I figure if I had gotten aluminum heads I`d be at about $2,500 and might have gone with more compression.

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
Assuming your 1994 block would be roller lifter ready, I would start there with a nice roller camshaft. Then there are a set of 64cc aluminum heads on ebay that sells for $650 all day long with free shipping. then get a good two-plane intake that's rated from 1500-6500 RPM and slap a good 600-650cfm Holley on it and your good to go!
Good luck.

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
Personally, if I had the $2500 to drop into my '93 block, I'd get it machined for a mechanical fuel pump, but then my electric is dieing again, so my advice may not be the best on here...

See above? ... I agree. Since it is not a daily driver, I'd get the ZZZ 1st design roller from GM, it thumps more than the newer designs. Get the whole roller setup, spider tray, and make yourself a roller engine. The bosses should already be there in the lifter valley. Add those Patriot heads on Ebay. Intake, carb, and get a good set of headers, and a 2200-2400 stall and you are set. Last edited by Doug Garland; 06-04-2010 at 01:42 PM. Reason: add text |

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.
Those Trickflow heads are angle plug which might not play nice with your headers.

Re: Help me spend 2500 on my engine.

Thanks for the advice on the angle plugs I can only imagine the pain there. edit: maybe i didn't pay close enough attention ever... that's why I'm glad you guys are here. I guess I need to do some more research on the differences in the blocks... I thought they were the same just the heads being different.... anyone care to prove me wrong please? I need to be clear that my truck is not throttle body injected. It has what I believe to be the factory centerbolt heads with a carb'd performer RPM intake. So I am unsure what would be the difference in the kit going in my block or an older one. Last edited by davebloomer; 06-04-2010 at 09:55 PM. |
