Powerglide Transmission Question

I currently have a nova posi rearend converted to work on our trucks for sale and a guy is offering me an aluminum powerglide tranny on trade. It is the long tailshaft model. Last year I sold a short tailshaft model powerglide tranny builder and that guy said the short tailshaft is what is more desireable at least for him it was. Is the long tailshaft powerglide less desireable or what is the difference? Thanks...

Re: Powerglide Transmission Question

shorter tail shaft is better for racing. Less lenght makes it harder to bust a tail shaft. The rear is worth about $100 more than the trans but only if you want a PG trans, if not the trans has no value at all and you shuld get 250 for the rear. if the posi is new the 450

Re: Powerglide Transmission Question

I agree completely. Unless you really need/want the PG, don't trade the rear for it. The PG would be of value only to someone needing a date correct core for a stock resto.
