Show me your 3/5 or 4/6, some questions too!

Hey everyone, I'm going to make a build thread soon, but just bought a 1980 swb c10 in a million different pieces. He included DJM drop spindles and a flip kit. He said its good for a 3/5 drop, which my search confirms, I think? Do I need different coils? Cut the stock ones? Anyone mind showing me their 3/5, how they did it and wheel/tire specs? Also some 4/6 or lower if you have them too, and how you did it/how could I go lower if I wanted to? Thanks a lot!

You could just add some 1 or 2 inch drop coil springs to the spindles you already have. Or you could cut a little off of your stock coils.

thanks justin36, definitely looks more level in the second pic!
looks good jonboy! looks like I might have to go 4/6, I can get the inch out of the front by cutting the coil, but how can i get the extra inch out of the flip kit, which is said to lower the rear 5 in? Keep em coming guys!

Re: Show me your 3/5 or 4/6, some questions too!

It depends on your springs. My truck has 2.5" spindles, one coil cut off of the front, and a flip kit in the rear. I had the HD springs (8 leaves), so that put me close to 6" in the rear. Honestly, I was so excited to start dropping the truck, I forgot to take "before" measurements.

It depends on the flip kit you have, I think some are closer to 6" than 5". You asked how you could get it lower, I guess that is like asking how to skin a cat, there are several ways. When I lowered mine, I wasn't happy with the rear and wanted to go an inch more, I just went to the auto parts store and bought a set of 1" lowering blocks, they worked just fine, and I got the extra inch I needed to level my truck. So may say not to use them for on reason or another, but they did what I wanted.
You could also remove a leaf or two from you spring packs, there is no way to tell how much drop this will give you, so you have to use the trial and error method.
You can also buy a set of lowering shackles, most times they require you to remove part of a bed cross sill to clear them. Some come with muliple holes in them so you can adjust the amount of drop you get from them.
They sell dearched leaf springs as well as lowered front spring hangers, the means to the end go on and on.
If you decide to go lower than what you get out of the flip kit, you should also consider installing a c notch as well. With just the flip kit, it would not be necessary, but if you go lower (axle moving closer to frame), it would be a worth while investment.

Re: Show me your 3/5 or 4/6, some questions too!

On the blue truck we installed the DJM flip kit and removed one of the springs. We did not notch the frame on that truck. Some kit offer a notch but we did not have to on that truck.
