rear end I.d help

the 12 bolt rear end in my truck is starting to leak from the pinion seal and howls once in a wile, since I will be installing a 5.3 with some goodies, so Ive decided to do a complete rear end rebuilt with new seal, races, bearing, 3.73 ring and pinion, and a posi traction but for a new ring a pinon its say's there two different carrier series but I have know idea, on the rear end say's 3898839 with a N under it and on the other side it says gm85

Hi Aaron,

Since you're adding Positraction, you'll be replacing the carrier. So it doesn't matter what's in there now. Just make sure you match up the new ring & pinion with the new Posi carrier.
