Fuel Pump Does A Split

Well I was driving along at about 70 mph and felt a sputter so I went to pull to the shoulder and my truck died. I thought it was fuel related so I checked the filter and had good flow. So I looked at the pump and seen it was in two pieces. I had never seen this before. I have always had sbc's in one form or another and have never had this happen. Put a new pump on and it runs fine know. Has this happened to anyone else. Or was it just a cheap pump.

Re: Fuel Pump Does A Split

My wife says it broke because it was scared that I was going to autocross it this weekend.

Can't say that I've ever seen it before either. It could have been a casting flaw from the factory, or the rocker could've had some play on it's pivot causing it to cock sideways and bind up????? Just some theories. Better luck with the next one.

had one do that. motor rolled in the bed of the truck when transporting. ran for a bit when installed and died just like yours. I figured it cracked when it rolled over.

Re: Fuel Pump Does A Split

I would change my oil in case it got a bunch of gas in it when the pump broke.

Re: Fuel Pump Does A Split

I knew i couldnt be the only one. I have been driving this truck alot in the past few years without any issues. So I was about due. As for the oil, the diaphram was still in tack and not leaking.

Re: Fuel Pump Does A Split

I had thought about buying a spare fuel pump before my long road trip last year, but I was more concerned about the diaphragm failing and getting stuck nowhere near a parts store. Wouldn't have thought that it may break in half? I didn't have time to get one, but next time I will, as cheap as they are at Autozone.
