project money pit.

Im the new guy and heres what I got so far. I picked up the truck a few months ago with no motor or trans in it. I traded a 72' 010 block 350 for it that had a knock so I think I came out on top haha.

I dont know much about the history of the truck besides the guy I got it from got it from a younger kid who started on it(hacked it). He got it with a 305/350 long shaft. I had another 010 350 I already had in store for it haha. The motor is just a factory 010 block 4 bolt main factory forged internals, stock 72' heads with a mild port and polish, I lapped the valves and installed new valve seals and double comp springs, elgin cam I forget the specs but the sound will speak for itself. It for a professional products crosswind airgap intake, edelbrock 1406 carb and summit brand headers. the trans is a th400, I got it for free froma friend and he told me it was just rebuilt so I threw a 2200 stall jegs convertor in it........Ill go over that in a little while. well enough typing heres the pics. The build as you see went on in NC getting it ready to come down here.

Picking it up.

motor I started with.

TH400

goodies

hack job axle job. yea the bump stop is right on the axle.

gettin there.

the vette valve covers didnt end up fitting.

electrical works

gettin ready

Re: project money pit.

a few more...

goin in.

finally in.

headin to MS

Ill tke a few more today of what I got goin right now. The front end is mildly torn down to replace all bushings, the coils that were cut, tir rod ends, pitman and idler arms, and ball joints. I havent got any new parts lately because the soon-to-be wife wont let me as we are getting ready for a trip back up to MI where we are from for the wedding (july 3rd). But in the mean time im doin a little body work, tearing down the front end, flipping the axle back and pulling the trans back out. Ill get some of the mint interior as well.

Re: project money pit.

I pulled out the transmission out tonight so I get a new pump in it. Now the drivers side suspension has to come out and then the cleaning starts. Hope to have this cleaned right down to bare metal so I can coat it with a military coating that resists everything....even a NBC attack haha.

Re: project money pit.

It will be nice when I actually get exhaust on it and get it tuned. that cam will be nice. the trans pump is all tore up, I looked at it closer and it was bad. it was supposed to be brand new rebuilt for 600hp......not so much. a performance pump and shift kit is in store for the 400.

No, the last guy to rebuild the trans put the pump gear in backwards and the clearences were wrong. At least thats what the trans shop here told me and I know thats an easy thing to do. When I put the trans in in may it was brand new, well newly rebuilt. I just hope it didnt destroy anything else in the trans, I only ran it for about 20 mins to break in the cam so we will see, a alot of shiny fluid came out when I flushed it tho. im keeping my fingers crossed. I am in search for a 700r4 now tho, just to play it safe in case this one goes out.
