Converting Dual tanks to a single tank

Hey guys,

My '84 has dual tanks, but the passenger side tank is crap. I'd rather just take it out and use that empty space to put my future air compressor/tank. What all would I have to do to just run the driver side tank? Are there any return lines or anything that I need to remove to safely have just a one tank truck? I know that I'll be down to just one 16 gallon tank, but this is just gonna be a weekend ride, so its not a big deal.

Thanks for any info you can give!

-Matt

Re: Converting Dual tanks to a single tank

Hey Matt, well I have a '79 with a carb and here's how my setup runs (stock). Okay so, on both of my tanks there is a 3 outlet Sending Unit, the middle outlet connects the two tanks together, if you were to convert to single tank, then just disconnect this and plug it on the driver side. Next is the two remaining fuel lines on both tanks (i dont know enough about gas lines to label these two), these both run to a a selector valve. On the valve, one side has 4 lines, and the other has two lines (im just gonna assume you know why). Simple there, just remove the passenger tank lines from the valve and plug them, OR you could just splice the driver side into the valve outlet lines and remove the valve entirely. Next would be just remove the switch in the cab and wire the gauge to the only tank. My apologies if i wasn't very clear, but hey i tried.

Re: Converting Dual tanks to a single tank

Had the same situation on my 87 with dual tanks. The passenger side leaked. I removed the tank, capped the lines with bolts and hose clamps.

If I ever wanted to add a new tank, it can easily be done, but I don't plan on needing more than 16 gallons of fuel at a time with gas prices.
