New Step Bumpers ?

Does anyone know if you can get a new step bumper for the 73-87s that looks stock and will accept the outer brackets?
Also if any one has pics of the 88-98 bumper swap I'd appreciate it. I used to have a pic or two but cant find them now.
Thanks
Shane

Re: New Step Bumpers ?

Hi Shane,

Factory step bumpers are the only ones I'm aware of that will accept the outer brackets.

The GM part numbers are 1404386 (chrome) and 14043838 (painted). Dad bought a chrome one for his 77 a few years ago from the local GM dealer so they might still be available.

There are some aftermarket step bumpers that look somewhat similar (like the ones in the LMC catalog). They don't normally use the outer brackets, but you might be able to make them fit. Obviously, that'd require drilling some holes in the bumper and maybe some minor modifications to the brackets.

Re: New Step Bumpers ?

Thanks for the part numbers.I'll have to check at the dealer.
I wouldnt mind doing some drilling, but I really hate the rolled step and the extra rib of the aftermarket ones, kinda looks like a F*rd bumper, and they are flimsy,I took alot of the bend out of the one on my parts truck ... by hand
