GMC Pauls wood bed info
This is to everyone planning to make your own wood for your truck bed; the info that is on GMC Paul board IS NOT CORRECT.
I cut my board exactly as his info instructed. the problem I found is The width size of the board is 6@7 3/16, 2@ 5 3/16 The machined part is 3/4 on both sides for a total of 1 1/2 After you minus the machined part from the board you have 6@ 5 11/16 And 2@3 11/16 the part you see after you put the strips down.....WHICH IS WRONG you are supose to see 6 @ 6 1/4 AND 2 @ 4 1/4 Maybe I'm wrong; I hope, I"ve alredy cut my boards per these specs. I've E-mailed & faxed GMC PAUL with this info with drawings; However have not got any reply Maybe someone can help me with my problem Do they make a 2" with strip?????? thanks for the ear...Ira

Here is a diagram I got with a Brothers wood kit. Good fit with no problems. Maybe this will help. (if pic shows)

This info is from the factory 1968 GMC Master Parts Book. Let me know if this is too small to read.

Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. '76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said. |

Yeah, I put the titles in backwards, sorry. They are correct now.
I'll check on the longhorn but I don't think I do.

wood bed confusion
After reading all the info on making your own wood for a shortbed fleetside there seems to be some contradictions.
Could someone who has made a complete wood bed installation from scratch please help me with the dimensions for the wood. I work on a cad system at work and I can lay out a drawing with all the dimensions to get started.

The dimensions have been changed. I made my strips per the incorrect dimensions, also. I milled the slots wider as a fix so that the strip does not cover as much wood.

if dims correct then this post should be closed or deleted.
I have read portions of this post before and it made me leary of posted info. If it is correct then GMC Paul should say so and moderator should delete this post started that says info is NOT correct. Some of us never get to the bottom of the post!!

The lengths of all the boards & widths are there but what about the slots for the strips? Any help will be appreciated.

I down loaded gmc paul.s sketches and dimensions last fall now i am confused on what to use?.
Dat your schematic is to small is there a way you can make it bigger. I am planning on making my own out of oak. and i would only like to do it once. lighten up on gmc paul if he has a mistake on his board he will remedy the problem. he has provided all of us with useful and helpful info. And great parts also.

Big Lou could you please magnify the post for a short bed fleetside woodbed drawing. Is there any further information on how the slots are cut for the strips. Hope I'm not bothering you too much, but good data is hard to come by. Regards

I just copied these to my 3.5 floppy and then took them to paint and went 120%. Try blowing them up yourself and they are easier to read.
