oil drip stick problem

well I bought this 72 jimmy, now im finding an oil leak from the dip stick. as it turns out some one broke the tube in the block. Its broke right where the tube butts up against the out side of the block. to fix that they fast weld 10 the other half of the tube on to the part that snapped off. But it leaks. Im i screwed? or can I some how pull the broken portion of the tube out of the block with out dropping the pan.

Also is there a skinny'er tube that I can just fit inside the broken one...

im pissed.

Re: oil drip stick problem

I had a similar issue once. The good news it that the tube should only be pressed in and require a little effort to remove.

In my situation I dug around and found screw that would thread itself into the sleeve. I then pulled it out. I would think that a tap set would have what u need as well. Regardless fix it right, pull the old one and get a new one. Do not use a sleeve in a sleeve.

Hope this helps.

Also welcome to the world of old vehicles. My guess is that overtime you will find a lot of similar "what the hells".

Re: oil drip stick problem

If you sleeve it, the dipstick may not fit through the inner sleeve.
