1969 4x4 Fleetside Gas tank relocation
I've read several threads on relocating the gas tank on 2wd trucks I was wondering if the process was any different when dealing with a 4x4? I have a Tuned port injection 350 and I am interested in moving the tank to the rear to cut down on gas fumes in the cab, free up some space behind the seat and hopefully quiet down the frame mounted fuel pump. I have a tank from a 91 S-10 that has the pump in the tank and I am hoping that I measured properly and it will fit.
If my S-10 tank doesn't fit does anyone have any suggestions on who makes a quality tank for my application? I want to get everything together before I pull the bed off.

I'd be interested in whether that tank will fit as well. I saw an s-10 without the bed on it and it looked to me like the fuel filler comes out the right way and everything. Will the sending unit work without any mods?

I have seen blazer tanks used in 2wd and 4x4 applications. You can look up Boydswelding on the site, and fuelcellguy both are members. peruse the 4x4 build section and you will see plenty of custom aluminum tanks etc.

Re: 1969 4x4 Fleetside Gas tank relocation
I wasn't sure if anyone had tried the 91 S-10 tank and if there was any clearance difference between coils springs on a 2wd and leaf springs on my 4x4.

Re: 1969 4x4 Fleetside Gas tank relocation
I swapped my incab tank out for a orignal burb/blazer tank and it worked just fine, have fabed up the filler neck but that should also be somewhat easy to do.
Good luck:

Re: 1969 4x4 Fleetside Gas tank relocation
I was looking at the same swap until a K5 parts truck fell into my lap.
At 33" wide x 22" long the S-10 tank would fit with a little crossmember surgery but I think the 28" x 28" 87-91 square body Blazer EFI tank would be a better fit. I have one and will get to fitting it up to my 67 4x4 conversion this weekend with any luck. I test fit it earlier and it looks to fit but I now have the 67 bed on the frame so I can tell for sure once I get the K5 crossmembers out of the donor frame. It may hang a little low as it is 12-3/4" deep but that is only 2" deeper than the S-10 tank and it holds 31 gallons instead of only 20. A nice skid plate can take care of that.

Re: 1969 4x4 Fleetside Gas tank relocation
That 31 gallon tank would have been great when I drove it home 1600 miles. Now that it is home and I only drive it 6 moths of the year that tank is more then I need. I'll do some measuring. Thanks for the info.
The truck works fine with the tank behind the seat. Maybe I will try a different fuel pump that doesn't make so much noise.
