Re: maybe this could be my problem?
?????????? How is that even related? If the truck is in neutral the rear end is not a factor at all, that would lead me to believe that you have one of three issues, timing, fuel or air. Not much it can be other than those. What type of carb do you have, what is the timing set at? have you place the dist. on a dist. on a actual dist. machine to check advance etc. What type of breather, plug wires good, are they cross firing at rpm, something is breaking down. Have you over reved the engine? valve springs could be clapped out. Lots of choices that you have but you just cant swap parts you are going to have to diagnose and be specific.

Re: maybe this could be my problem?
I think what the gentleman was trying to say is that if it doesn't bog down while in park or neutral, than something else is causing the problem. Can't say that I agree though.
As mentioned above, ignition components, timing and fuel delivery are the main causes of bogging at certain speeds. If fuel delivery is restricted it just won't get enough fuel to go any faster. Since this is an ongoing problem and getting worse, start by making sure you have good, constant fuel delivery. Here's some things I've encountered with these old trucks. Fuel tank filter, carb filter (insure it's installed properly with spring behind the filter), fuel pump pressure. Pumps are cheap so if it's never been replaced, try another one. Fuel lines restricted internally. Mine was so restricted that eventually it stopped running. Had to replace the one from the tank to the fuel pump. Finally, a severly worn cam may cause what seems to be bogging since the valves won't open enough to allow the engine to breath or run at it's max efficiency. |

Re: maybe this could be my problem?
I don't know if your corrupt state has forced the crappy ethanol mixed gas on you like ours (MO) has, but this stuff is murder on rubber lines. It could very well be that your rubber gas line has collapsed on the INSIDE, while it looks OK on the outside.
I've had no end of problems because of this. |

Re: maybe this could be my problem?
Check also for a restriction in the exhaust system, someone might have stuck a tater in your tailpipe.
