Problem with headlight/high beams.....need help

Hey all,
on my '84 when I have the headlightS on, on lowbeam both of the upper lights come on. When I turn on the high beams the lower lights come on along with the uppers, however the upper on the drivers side won't light up when on highbeams. The light comes on when on low, but when switched to high it goes off. Anybody know what would cause it not to light up when on high, but work fine on low? The other 3 lights work correctly as they should.

??????

Ok I can replace the light, but I guess I don't completly understand how these light work then. I didn't know that each individual light had two different elements inside it.

Trying to figure out how things work... causes brain tumors!

The top lamps are hi/low built in one, but each is a seperate 'bulb' inside. That is why when you buy new ones, you have to tell them high or low (top or bottom light), because they are different. Your lowers (highs) are just one 'bulb' inside. It is very possible, even though it is just one light, for your low to work and your high not, or vice verse.

Yup just put a new sealed beam in and youll be good to go. They are easy to replace. Replace with whats in there. If its a Halogen then go with a halogen. I would go all Halogen anyway....

Thank you!! I learned something today. I did not know that about these lights. If I hadn't read that I'm sure I'd have just went and boutght one and prolly got the bottom one without knowing they were differet.

Nah, if you went to a parts place like AutoZone or Advance, they'd of asked you. Of course they'd also be asking you the engine size, transmission type, wheelbase length and if it has A/C or not (standing joke here at my shop).
