Another Spotlight Bites the Dust!

About 4 or so months back I scored a Unity OEM left hand spotlight for my GMC. All the brackets were included, which you need to mount and install the light correctly.

HOWEVER, without the help of MARK BRAZELTON, who wrote up a very detailed procedure on the steps to take, I would still be scared to try and install the light.

Well tonight after getting some help from Mark, I got the light installed perfect. Took about an hour, I read everything twice and did every step as a practice step first. One accessory down and about 15 to go.

In case you're wondering, the painter told me he wanted me to do all the drilling and fooling with the cab now, so he did not have to worry if I scratch the paint after he gerts through. The light was removed after the pictures were taken.

Those sure do like like they are meant to be on a 60-63. The way the wrap around window meets the a-pillar. Very Cool!

That particular outside bracket IS meant to be used for the 60-63 cabs. I've found the correct spotlights before, but never the brackets. the outside bracket is rare and if you notice that top of it is curved to fit the slight curve of the windsheild lip. It seems for some reason when most people remove the lights from the trucks, they seem to leave the brackets on the vehicle.

Unity still makes the same style light (but without the correct period black handle, but they no longer make the outside or inside bracket.

The crazy part of putting the light in, is getting over the fear of messing something up. As I started the install, I had markes writeup on the dash and one each step I must have read everything twice, and check the pictures several times. I only have one shot at this.

We took it off boxed it up and now have to wait until she's pated before we can re-mount. The painted asked me to go make all the holes in the cab I needed for the different things, accessories, etc. as he does not think it's a great idea to do this AFTER he paints the cab, accidents happen that way.

Great, I plan on putting in the spotlights July 3rd. on the 63. Your painters fears are causing me some anxiety!

Your painter is right. I worked for a windshield replacement shop one summer. We had to change a busted up windshield on a Camaro that had just been repainted with a really nice candy red. The owner of our shop said that we weren't responsible for the paint since it should have been changed out before the paint was done. As he was cutting the urethane around the glass, the blade broke and put a 4" gash through the paint and into the metal. The damage was brutal to look at on such a nice paint job. It was dead center on the windshield at the top, right in the line of vision. House Of Color Kandy paint was about $1200 a gallon and this was in 1990. When we left the dude was flipping out....

I heard of stories like that before. Art is about 65 and been around the block a few times. The only other thing I need to make holes for is the under dash tissue holder. It has two small screws that go into the very edge of the dash lowere lip. You won't see it but why not do it now.
