Need brake help badly!
Okay so ive had this front end pull for a few months now. Ive been trying to fix it but nothing seems to work. My front passenger caliper is lightly grabbing causing a pull. Ive checked the bearings and they are not tight one the caliper is removed it spins freely. I have new brake hoses, the lines aren't cinked at all, Ive replaced the front caliper, also put new bolts because my old one where over tightened. What the hell can it be
Heres a list of new parts and problem still not fixed: New calipers New caliper bolts New bearings inners and outters New brake hoses New proportioning valve What can it be, there is another thread on the 67-72 section and someone said the spindle can some one explain why the spindle would effect it, also when i do a full turn to the left i can feel the passenger side moving, like its poping or falling over in a way hard to explain wonder if that is a spindle problem

How would the tie rod end cause the caliper to grab the rotor at all times? Tie rod end may be the movement in the front end during turning not doubt about that.

If the caliper is grabbing enough without brakes applied the wheel is going to be really hot and you will smell brakes.
If your wheel is not hot and you do not smell brakes rotate your tires, usually pulling is caused by a separated tire. place a floor jack under your control arm or axle which ever you have and raise the tire until its an inch off the ground and check the movement left to right, it should feel tight so make sure you manhandle it when checking. Then place a big pry bar under the tire and pry up to see if the ball joints are tight. When i mean check for movement i mean with your hands, grab the tire and try to move it. |

ive rotated the tires also, the caliper is lightly grabbing you can spin the rotor but have to put some force into it, also i know how to check all the ball joints and all that, im looking for answers to my brake caliper lightly grabbing i will get a video uploaded on here tomorrow to clarify more of what it is doing.

I had a gen 3 dodge dakota, those trucks had the worse brakes ever. I had the same problem, the caliper was dragging and the truck was pulling. When i would stop the wheel was hot as hell and covered in dust. I replaced everything like you did but still was not fixed.
The flat spot on the caliper bracket that the pads rode on and were supposed to slide on were worn way down causing little notches, it misaligned the caliper and caused the outside pad to always drag and get hot. The pulling was caused by a bad alignment. Dont know if that will help you or not but thats what i experienced. |

My truck was doing the same thing about a month ago when I installed drop spindles and upgraded to the larger 1.25" rotors and calipers. My problem was the spindle machining where the caliper mounted. I measured and took off the same amount of both bosses until the rotor moved freely. Now it works like a champ!

The machined/threaded bosses where the caliper bolts to on the back of the spindle. Mine were off a little bit keeping the outside pad touching causing the caliper to be really tight going on. Causing the rotors to bind and not move without great effort. Sorry don't have any pics of the problem area.

It looks like you replaced everything except the master cylinder, pads and rotors? Why would you change the calipers and not the pads and at least turn the rotors? I would change these and possibly the master cylinder as these are fairly inexpensive.

The master cylinder will not cause a pull. It the internal seal was bad then both brakes would be dragging. Does it pull the same way all the time? Is it only when braking? Does it pull when braking and then release suddenly? Do you have to hold the wheel to keep it in the road when brakes are not applied? When you press the pedal does it go to the floor? Does the pedal go down and hold position? How did you bleed the system when you installed the calipers? These are a few question so I can know what you are dealing with. These are the same questions I ask of my customers when they are having brake issues.

I have the same problem on my truck, a '73 C20. Slight pull to the right, done the same thing you have except the new rotor. Pads, caliper, hose, etc.

Well, cant insert my $.02 cause everything I thought of has been mentioned. Whats troublesome is im getting ready to drop my truck, and Im hoping I dont have these issues when I change the spindle, etc....

Alot of things can cause pull like front end bushing and ball joint wear, rear brake grab, etc. but it is usualy tied to the front calipers and rotors. I have done many brake jobs and it was always fixed changing these items and making sure everything is real clean and properly lubricated during assemby as the caliper has to slide freely and if not will drag. I do not even have rotors turned anymore as I alway just replace them with new and use ceramic pads.

Everything is new on the truck as far as suspension, The brake pull is slightly there while driving, when i stop it pulls harder to the passenger side. I bleed the system fully back passenger, back driver, front passenger, then front driver. Pedal is not spongy at all, I didn't replace the pads because they are still good. Im leaning towards the mounting of the caliper is bad, i have an extra set of spindles laying around i might try to put the one on and see if it fixes the problem. Any other input

Did you clean the calipers and the spindle where the caliper rides and use anti sieze?

I had the same problem, replace the caliper and solved ...
if you installed a drop spindles, see if it makes contact with the wheel ... I had to grind the spindle, that rubbed against the wheel... |

i dont have drop spindles on the truck and the caliper just bolts to the spindle and rides on the slides there all new.

If it's pulling to the right , sounds like the left caliper is sticking. Check the brake hose to make sure its not pinched. Try bleeding the caliper again. If they are new, replace it. They should have a warranty.

the passenger side caliper is grabbing, and pulling to the passenger side. The brake hose isnt pinched at all, the caliper is new and has been bleed 4 times. It never did this before just randomly started it sucks.

bringing this back up for more ideas, i have heard that the brake hose can collapse internally but, When i bleed my front passenger caliper i get good flow out of it would it still be collapsed in a way??
