Mystery Pedal?

My 71 cheyenne super has a third pedal directly below the emergency brake that I am unsure what it was orignally used for. I crawled under the truck yesterday to see what this pedal is connected to and it doesn't appear to be connected to anything at this time. It's definitely not a clutch pedal as my truck has an original turbo 350. Anyone else have any ideas what this was originally used for before the previous owner disconnected it?

There is an E-Brake pedal above this pedal in question. This pedal is below the emergency brake pedal with a small spring underneath it about 1.5" tall.

Re: Mystery Pedal?

Previous owner added it to confuse people into thinking it's a manual?

I'll throw a picture up tonight. It sounds like this wasn't an option from the factory.

Attached picture. Kind of hard to see but I circled the pedal in red. I'll have to take another picture tonight when I get home from a little closer.

Re: Mystery Pedal?

Does it have air lines or wires coming from it? P.O. may have decided to keep his horn.

From what I can tell there is nothing connected to the pedal and nothing happens when the pedal is pressed.

This would make the most sense as the pedal has a small stiff spring beneath it and only has about 1/2" of throw when pressed.

Hmm. They put those in new cars now. Interestingly enough, they are called....

... a "dead pedal".

Re: Mystery Pedal?

Foot rest was my first thought, but it seems kind of useless. It looks too be too close to the seat, but if it's moved back, then it blocks the dimmer switch. I may have to put one of those moonshine dumpers or nitrous buttons in my truck! Could it be an OH SH*T pedal?

Re: Mystery Pedal?

I'd go with foot rest but it doesn't look like it is in a very comfortable spot. Still it was probably put there by a previous owner for that purpose. It could have been that someone who drove it in the past had a bum leg and put that in there so he could have his foot and leg comfortable.
