Well I got my wheels in today but I have a problem. I have a 72 chevy stepside and I ordered 15x10 ralley wheels for it but they stick out 2" past the fender. LOL So I need some help should I have the (original) rearend shortened 2" on each side? should I purchase a used rearend and have it shortened? I do not want to go with a small size wheel.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is there enough clearance to make up the difference in the backspacing of the wheel?

I am not sure what you are asking. But I think you are asking if I changed the wheel to a 6.5" backspace instead of a 4.5" would it fit?

The backs yes the fronts no.

If I changed the drums to disks would this narrow the rearend?

Yep that was what I was asking LOL, switching the backspacing on the backs is an easier solution than narrowing the rear and I think you might gain something by going to front disk but dont think it would be the amount you need

Sorry just though of this is it a 1/2 ton, then shouldnt it already have front discs anyway????

a 72 has disc fronts already// a 6.5 backspace in front will probally cause problems with cleanance issues when turning a 6.5 backspace in rear might need to reroute thhe emergancy brake cables a bit or tire might hit the bedside too

It does on the front and the rims fit fine there. The rear is where the problem is and that is where I was thinking of changing to discs but I am not sure of the cost. What is cheaper a narrow rearend or discs and with the discs do you really gain anything.

the axels and studs are in the same place with rear disc it changes nothing as far as track width

It might be cheaper to widen the fenders than narrow the rear.

No... The rear are drums... front are disc. But to narrow the rear end is a lot of work and cash, when you can just get the proper backspacing for the 2 rims in the rear.

That is the problem these rims only come with a 4.5 to 5" backspace. I have the 4.5" now but I need to gain 2 more inches, .5" is not going to be enough (That's what she said

) I have been doing some research and it seems that to narrow a GM rearend would cost a lot of money.

I really want these wheels on my truck but maybe common sense says to just go with the 15x8's. DADGUM

I would check with Stockton Wheel Service- they will either modify your existing rims to whatever BS you want or make you a new set- again to whatever backspace you desire. You shouldn't need to narrow your rearend to run 10" rims.....folks do this all day long. You just need to get your backspacing dialed in and you'll be good to go.

have you mounted tires on these rims yet to measure the actual clearance in the rear to the bed sides? i'd hate to hear you spent a bunch changing the rims than with tires mounted they hit the bed
