All of the above, plus bigger valves and mill the head. It will really pep the little motor up.

I've got a Offy intake forsale. Also have a carb, but its 600cfm and probably a bit big for most 6s.

Isn't the cool factor worth anything any more... lol

But, yeah, it's gonna cost you quit a bit to spruce up that old inline.

Is it a 250ci or 292ci?

Probably,

I think the engine mount is a good way to tell quickly.

On the passenger side it would be located in the center of the block or more towards the front. There's a thread here somewhere.

Re: what upgrades can I do on the straight 6

I've got Langdon's stovebolt cast iron headers on my 230 and soon will have my Offy intake and holley 350 installed. Still gathering parts. The headers and duals out the back really woke up the little 6. Headers are 300 bucks. Duals where about 450. Intake used was 100 plus carb etc will be another 200. Plus skip white dizzy. Hei is best mod. Hop up your 6. Anybody can install a bigger motor. Yours will be unique.

Re: what upgrades can I do on the straight 6

I really like the stock I-6 in my '67 even better at times than the 454 in another truck I own. Of course each motor has its place.

The 454 roars and hauls it down the road where as the I-6 purrs and motors down the road. Just depends on what mood I am in what I drive.

Neither of my trucks are show trucks and probably never will be because I like to use them as trucks, but that is what pleases me.

My daughter-in-law has a truck of show quality and rarely drives it.

My son on the other hand wants to build a drag truck, we will just have to see how that works out.

That is what is great about these old trucks, they can be fixed which ever way a person wants. This forum will for sure help a person which ever way they want to go.

Re: what upgrades can I do on the straight 6

Andrew,
I've got a 235 inline in a 56 Chev. She's got an Offy intake w/2 carbs, Fenton headers w/dual exhaust, one of Patricks dress up kits. That truck has got some "poop" to it and nothing sounds like a 6 w/Fentons. Drove it to a show(yes drove it,no trailer queen here) 3 hours away. I had more people stop to look at the engine than any of the V8's close to me. The "Wow" factor alone is worth it. You don't have to spend a ton of money on em to have a peppy engine.
