Ok so Im gonna start working on my 67 again and was thinking about starting with replacing the cab corners and rockers. I have the patch panels to do it i just am afraid of cutting into my baby dont want to screw anything up! So I was wondering if anyone had any tip\s for me or if there is a thread already on this? thanks!

Re: Cab corners and rockers
You can buy the DVD's from ebfabman. I've got a set I need to watch before I start cutting on mine. I'm probably in the same boat as you, no experience and scared. LOL.

Re: Cab corners and rockers
Just a few things I've learned the hard way:
On Cab corners, I've found it best to trim the new one so it seams below the body line, then once you are around the corner a ways, angle down to the part where the corner notches up around the frame. On rockers, if your rockers are still intack enough that they are holding some weight (looking at the gap around your doors to see if it still looks even is one clue) then take the door off & run two braces across the door opening to hold things in place. If the door gap is way off or the floor is sagged, jack up the floor until the door is where you want it & tack weld the door in place, then tack the new rocker in place (front fender off) front and back best you can (it's not easy) from inside & out, then take door off & finish the welding. If you are nervous because of lack of welding experience, get some junk metal & start practicing! That's where all of us started. |

Re: Cab corners and rockers
What they said.....
I would like to add: Don't cut too deep. When I removed the outer roof skin on mine, I just ground through the spot welds and pulled the roof with pliers, breaking the remaining welds without distorting the metal... eFabman's DVD's would be a worth while expense. Have you seen his work... Last edited by Kayotic; 06-22-2010 at 09:48 AM. |
