Pilot Bushing in 350 crank

Trying to plan ahead for my manual tranny swap. A question for all: Will I need to pull my crank and take it to a machine shop and have them drill a hole for the pilot bushing? The motor was orginally mated to an automatic transmission. Did GM take this into account in 81' and drill for the pilot bushing regardless of the transmission application?

Yes they did. You will have to by a bushing tho.

Thanks my Canadian brother!!!!!!!! I was hoping for some good news. I guess all I really need right now is some clutch return springs, a pilot bushing, a manual tranny radiator, and a few other miscellaneous odds and ends, and we might be ready to go. I guess it is a good thing that my Dad saved those 68' Camaro parts now.....................

I don,t think you have to change rad,just some plugs

you can get brass plugs at any hardware store.

If you remove the trans lines from the radiator no water will come out ,even without plugs . I would plug them just to keep dirt and such out . Installing the pilot bushing is as easy as just tapping it in place . Just be sure to check that it fits the input shaft of the trans before installing it .

I have run the open cooler holes for years on my 69. Never did plug them, I will some day or not . The pilot bushing comes "brass" like. We used to put our finger on one side, fill with oil then finger on the other side and squeeze together to impregnate the porous bushing with oil. I think they do make a High Performance needle bearing one as well but Brass works well.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I thought my pocket was going to take a hit for awhile. I have only seen (3) manual trucks @ various pick and pulls over the past year. I have a line on a BW T10 tranny as we speak for $ 300. I might have to do some trading or do a small bathroom remodel for the guy to get my hands on it. What good is it to work @ a cabinet shop if you can't make a little bread on the side...............
