how do you disassemble a front axle manual locking hub
I have to change some of the wheel studs and therefore remove my rotor. I've never disassembled a four wheel drive hub before. Anyone have any tips, pics would be great too?

It's pretty easy but you will need a special socket like this one.

Re: how do you disassemble a front axle manual locking hub
There is only one basic wheel hub socket for GM trucks, it's about 1 7/8" inside the teeth, 2 1/8" round or so...
torque is always a big question... I have read that the initial torque on the inner nut is about 50lbs to seat the bearings, then back it off a little. you'll have to research to be sure..

No, don't back-off of the outer nut. It is part of the "locking" system, the "adjustment" is with the inner nut only.

I think it's one of those things you'll figure out when you get there. If it's too tight the wheel won't spin, if it's too loose it'll feel like the bearing is going out. You gotta feel it.

Re: how do you disassemble a front axle manual locking hub
note: set up the bearing on just the first nut and don't worry about the torque the first nut is there for fine tuning, then torque the second(outer) to 55 ft lbs before finishing spin the rotor about 10 or so times forwards and then a couple times backward then recheck torque again on the outer only if torque is 50-60lbs then your fine if its at 45-50 then retorque if its outside of 45-60 then re setup the bearing and try again
