windshield install
so, I've replaced the back glass several times, no problem.
what can I expect on the front glass? run the soapy rope around it like on the back? or install the rubber first, then work the glass in? or ??? or fork over the $$$ and have a pro do it?

It is just like the back glass, just a little bigger. Set the glass in the rubber, rope if necessary, and install the lock strip. I haven't put one in in about 15 years, but it isn't too bad.

I had a pro do mine
He did the rubber on the cab first, set the glass in the bottom channel, and used a tool to run around the windshield positioning it in the gasket. After that, he started the lock strip in the gasket, then used a different tool to run around the windshield tucking the strip into the gasket.

I do them myself...as they are EASIER than the rear glass.....
Install rubber first....fold the rubber "lock" lip into itself, then set glass in the bottom of rubber....I just use WD-40 to lube the rubber. Use a dull, rounded screwdriver or even a butter knife to "walk" the rubber around the glass. Once ya get most of it, the remaining will just pop in....then just fold the rubber into it's groove...if it's the rubber with the separate rubber "rope" that locks it in, it's easier yet...

Soak the lockstrip (if used) in hot water beforehand makes things easier is what I have found.

thanks again guys...
the new seal arrived via UPS today. I went with the "No Insert" style. the one thats in now has the chrome insert, but i never have cared for it. I'll give it a try this weekend

How did this turn out for you? I'm thinking about trying it again myself. It has been a long time since I installed one. It never was hard for me to break the 67-72 style but these seemed to go in easy. Any tips?

I am about to install a windshield in a 1975 truck that had the insert style rubber. The new rubber is without the insert, and looks very different. Does anyone have a pic of this type installed? It almost doesn't look like the right one. Thanks.

I was thinking of doing mine, but I found a guy that'd put new glass in with the rubber and everything for $180. Couldn't beat that, so I just paid him. Came out to my house and did it in no time. Now I need new rear glass. Hope you got it.
