Accelerator cable for V-8?

Hi- My 1980 short wide body came with a 250 inline 6 originally. Now it has a small V-8. So the wiring harness and the accelerator cable are sort of odd-fitting. I can get a new engine harness pretty reasonable. I've been searching unsuccessfully for a new throttle cable. I plan to do a 700R4 transplant so I'm not too concerned about the kickdown cable. I'd love to get a manual choke cable too, if they made one for that truck from the factory. If not, I'll get an aftermarket one. But does anybody know where I can find a throttle cable? I'm trying to make things simple-looking under the hood. Real subdued, no chrome, but everything looking like it belongs there. And clean. Anyway, throttle cable???

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

When I swapped out the 250 for a 454 I grabbed one from Advance Auto Parts for a 76 Chevy C-10 with a 350. Fit just fine.

If you're planning on a Holley later on they make a real nice bracket for the accelerator cable and the 700 R TV cable.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

Actually I have an Edelbrock carb on it. I think the tranny shop was saying they would have to buy a kit fior the TV cable anyway, so I'll just leave that one alone for now. But great idea for the cable. Sometimes the simple answer is the best.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

Well, there's a problem with the distance between the bracket mounted to the intake where the cable attaches and the stud on the throttle bracket of the carburetor. Stock cables no-workie. So I bought a universal cable kit and made my own. Took a while, but whaddya gonna do?

Of course it's too late now, but do you have any pictures of your bracket configuration? The stock cable worked on mine but I have since changed to a braided sleeved cable for looks only.

I feel like I owe you 15-20 bucks since it didn't work.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

I'm using the stock 350 accelerator cable on my edelbrock, but I had to use a new cable to intake mounting bracket. Mine mounts to the intake, but This One will do the same job.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

I guess I could have swapped brackets and gotten the problem solved. But I'm gonna get a 700R4 put in as soon as I can. I'm gonna keep the stock cable I bought and maybe the shop can use it when they do the swap. No real harm done.

Any carb mounted bracket will flex! Use this one instead.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

Will it work equally well with a 700R4? Looks like a good one.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

Yeah it'll wrk with a 700r4. I like they're adjustable so you can make em work for almost anything. I've had a bracket like that on a 700r4, th350, th400. They worked well, though the bracket makes no difference for a th400.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

Hmm, the dude that's gonna do my 700R4 conversion was saying something about needing to do some bracket magic for the TV cable, otherwise I'd go and get one of the ones shown above.

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

Mine is connected to a 700R4 and cruise control! Be sure to use the throttle correction bracket too! Part #29 and #42. I love part #42. It allows full WOT!

Re: Accelerator cable for V-8?

Welp, truck's been in the shop for a week and a half. They say they've got everthing in, except the attachment to the carb for the TV cable. He went to JEGs yesterday and ordered it. Hopefully I'll have the truck back Friday, so I can try and resolve some of its other quirks...
