new to site, just got my truck last week

Whats up everybody, just sold my Harley and bought a 65 Shortbed Fleetside. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the site (like posting pictures in my profile... haven't figured that out yet). I just wanted to post a couple pics of my new truck, and see what people think. The only thing I've done so far is tint the windows, and buy some smaller round mirrors.

Its got a 350 motor, auto trans, power steering, and seems to run pretty well so far.

I'm planning on lowering it, getting some new wheels/tires, paint, flows (or glass packs), repainting it, getting a new bumper (or rollpan) ect.

Also, if anybody has any advice as to how I can line the bed up with the rest of the truck a little better on the passenger side. The drive side lines up nice, but the passenger side is a little loose, and sags a little.

Thanks,

Ray

Welcome to the site, nice looking ride. You'll probably need to slide under to see what's up with the bed alignment. Perhaps one side has some type of pad or mount between the frame and the bed and the other side doesn't. It should be reasonably obvious.

Re: new to site, just got my truck last week

Thanks for the welcome, from what I can see underneath, it looks like everything is bolted up correctly (but I'm definitely a novice when it comes to working on cars) There is some rust underneath the bed, so I'm thinking maybe there is a bracket or lip that might be completely gone.

I'm considering lifting the bed up and welding some angle iron on the underside of the bed to hold it in place, but I'll take some pics to post to see if there might be something obvious that I'm missing.

Thanks again.

Good looking rig. My recommendation is take your time on it. I bought everything twice for mine because I couldn't make up my mind on what I wanted. Get a plan and stick to it. These things rock to cruise in.

Welcome from So Cal. I've only been here a month more than you and enjoy the he!! out of this site. Great people and lots of experience. They all have the same addicition and love for these Chevy trucks.

I love the short beds, it looks like you got a great start for a cruiser.

As for the sagging bed........I would grab a tape measure and compair side to side:

frame
bed mounts
bed

Take your time, and I think it will become evident what the problem is.

I had to shim mine, as a long bed they look stupid if their lowered and the bed isn't level.

Welcome to the forum. Nice new truck too! If you checked both the cab and the bed mounts and it all looks kosher - might be worth checking to see if there look like "homemade" welds on any of those mounts on either side (i.e. even the good side) - maybe someone replaced a crusty one and welded it in hi or low. But who knows. It'll get sorted out. That's just the first fun you'll have... Welcome again - I'm still fairly new here myself (I guess) and I think you'll find this is quite a friendly and knowledgeable crowd. I'm amazed at some of the talent on here - browse thru the projects and builds section and you'll see.
Take care!

Re: new to site, just got my truck last week

Check out the frame real well on that passenger side bed as talked about before. If that looks to be good i would'nt weld anthing to the bed, MAR-K has very good replacement parts for our beds and very good prices to boot. I'm sure you will find the problem and it will be stright before you know it. Nice truck and half the fun is fixiing them up.

Maybe I missed it but..
Is all your wood good in the bed?

That sag looks about the same as when the wood is missing and bed is setting on inner rails. That 3/4" wood makes a big difference.

Just a thought

Re: new to site, just got my truck last week

sorry i couldnt respond for so long, I guess there was something wrong with the site that was blocking new members from posting for a while. Thanks for all of the responses. The lip on the bed was rotted away, and the bed is just plywood, so I ended up rigging something up out of some unistrut L brackets from my work, and the bed is sitting level for now. I'll try and post some pics soon if anybody is interested.

Thanks again for the responses, and welcomes.
