1966 Grill removal

Hello all! Been watching and reading for awhile just haven't posted. Thankful for a sight with a lot of guys who know whats going on with these trucks! Need some help as far as where to start to remove the grill on the 66 GMC. I have found some rivets but really no bolts to speak of. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Hutch

Re: 1966 Grill removal

They are behind the cowl. The rivets you are talking about hold the brackets (of the grill) to the cowl behind. Get underneath your truck and look up into the fenders- there are 3 on each side.

This information is based off of a '65 Chevy which should have the same or similar grill.

gmc's might have 4 bolts, if they do, you need to pop the hood, and the other is behind the support in front of the radiator.

Re: 1966 Grill removal

Actually GMC grilles have 6 bolts. 3 under each fender in front of the tire, two outboard and 1 inboard, and 2 more holding the grille to the support panel. These are just above the inboard edge of the headlight rims, and are best accessed after removing the radiator air deflectors.

Re: 1966 Grill removal

Thanks guys for all of the info. I'll b going to the junkyard n the am and see about the other 2 bolts. It's a Chev panel with a GMC grill so we'll have a crap shoot as to what bolts are there. Thanks again, Hutch
