Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

There is a family in town that is moving and they told me I could pick up the rolling frame from their '86 3/4 ton shortbed for the $50 bucks that the salvage yard was going to pay them. I figured if they were decent I would just buy it and yank the front and rear out from the frame and just save them, but am unsure as to what they are. I know they're 8 lug and the front has Warn lockout hubs, but that's about it. Can anyone fill me in?
Thanks.

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

The front is a 10 bolt, but the rear looks like a Dana44 to me. Trevor

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

Thanks for the reply, Trevor. Is the 10 bolt worth saving, or should I just grab the rear and junk the rest? I figured I would buy the chassis and just use the axles for trade stuff down the road if I didn't find a use for them..............

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

Does the rear axle have a hub or just an axle face? It should have been a 14 bolt non floater from the factory.

I wasn't able to spend a lot of time out there, they're supposed to be out by the end of the week and I just hate to see something sent to the junk pile if it can be used. I'll try to get a better look tomorrow. Which axle has the hub?

That's no 14 bolt rear, 14 bolts don't have that buldge in the cover. That's why I say it looks more like a Dana 44 axle. The 10 bolt is worth more than $50, if that helps ya out. It's worth picking up. Trevor

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

Cool, I'll go ahead and grab them then. I had gone out to the guy's place because he listed a complete 4 speed and transfer case and when I went out to buy them I asked about the frame sitting in the driveway. Now to break out the Sawzall...........

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

I agree with Drink2mny, its looks like a 14 bolt semi floater rear...this would have the 9 1/2 ring gear and started in 86 I believe. Take a look again and see if it is a 6 lug rear.

Ok, it kind of looks like this 14 bolt cover:

Here is a nice site for identifying axles. A mod should make it a sticky.

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

Wow, I consider myself a 4x4 guy, but I guess I have never paid any attention to those Semi-float 14 bolts. I always assumed they had the same pumpkin as the Full Floating 14 bolts, like how Dana 44 fronts all look the same. Good catch guys. I would still pick them both up if you can for $50 though.

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

Like Trevor and others have said, the 10 bolt is worth it because someone can use the axles or use the hubs and such to convert another 10 bolt from 6 to 8 lug.

That rear is definitely NOT a Dana 44.

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

That rear is definitely a 14 bolt SF. It's a good upgrade for a 1/2 ton truck, but nothing special on a 3/4.

Just a heads up he said this was under an 86 3/4 ton.. They didn't put dana 44's under them..some had semifloat 9 1/2 ring gear 14 bolts.. 6 luggers..

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

Thanks drink2mny, I was always under the impression that 3/4 ton 4x4's received 14 bolts that look like Full Floater 14's. Had no idea this whole time, that the Semi-floaters didn't look anything like the FF 14's that I am used to. Trevor

If you are trying to say that is what the pictured axles are...you are completely wrong.

This particular 14 bolt is not at all as strong as a 14BFF. Many differences seperate them.

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

All in all the full-floater is much stronger and more desireable, but the semi-float is WAY better than a 10 or 12 bolt. 33 spline axles are larger diameter than the 30 spline jobs in the FF as well.

Re: Could someone I.D. these axles for me??

Must be those parts are hard to find out there, I junked a couple sets of those. They are all over yards up here.

The 14sf rear in the 80s ALL had 8 lug, the 6 lug 14sf didn't come out till the NBS in 88.

I'd grab it.

The 10 and 14 bolt could be useful, it has a lift kit on it, and assorted parts could go to ebay.
