87' Stock Digital Radio

I have a factory digital radio in my 87'. Is it worth fixin? the numbers are half out but still works. Its either get it reworked or just buy a pioneer head unit and cut the dash? I want to run better 6x9's with an amp behind the seat and better dash speakers....The other 87' I bought also has the same radio and I thought they were kinda rare?

Re: 87' Stock Digital Radio

Theres a guy on here who added all new internals to his stock radio. It is in the "whats your favorite mod" thread. Really cool idea.

Re: 87' Stock Digital Radio

Dang, if I knew of all this stuff that was going to be rare when I was ripping apart my '87 Silverado back in high school I'd have saved it and be sitting on a fortune.

I went with a new head unit when my factory deck went kaput. N2TRUX did a cool conversion though.

Re: 87' Stock Digital Radio

I've been trying to get one of those radios with the ETR for almost 2 months now. I keep getting ones in from the salvages, and they either don't work at all or the face is half burnt out. I'm about to cut my dash and put in a factory '89 Suburban radio. I like the factory look, but have to have the ETR, the old crystal radios just suck.

Randy, if you want to come clean out my garage for me you can have the factory radio off my '87, if you find it.

Re: 87' Stock Digital Radio

LoL. What an offer. Had I realized how crappy the crystal radios were, I never would have welded my dash up from a previous owner hack to put an aftermarket deck in (so I could put a factory deck in). Now I'm seriously pondering cutting a big square hole and running the suburban deck, got a few cluster bezels that fit it, but I just feel bad cutting the dash back out after welding it up.

That's why it's a project truck though, right? You're never done.
