Doors 1/4 inch longer?

I switched out the doors on my 81 with some from a 74 I believe and they measure about a 1/4 in longer. I adjusted the front fenders forward to get them to work. Please tell me i'm not crazy and the doors really are a little bigger.

Re: Doors 1/4 inch longer?

73-76 takes a different shell than 77 up. But I'm not sure they are different lengths or anything.

Re: Doors 1/4 inch longer?

I have heard early GM doors were indeed wider by about 1/4", but have never measured them myself to confirm.

Maybe someone with orig 73 doors can measure theirs and someone with 80 something can measure theirs...so we can compare.

Re: Doors 1/4 inch longer?

I've measured the ones off the 81 and my buddies 87 and they are both 1/4 inch shorter. The reason I changed them out is that I like the door panels better off the early doors. I measured at the body lines on both.

Re: Doors 1/4 inch longer?

FWIW I seen a 78 for sale local and it had the later model door panels and the doors had a huge gap in between them and the fender. I'm thinking as mentioned, but they ut the later doors on the older truck, thus giving it a 1/4 inch wider gap and looking aweful.

Re: Doors 1/4 inch longer?

I have newer doors on my 73, there is a decent gap at the fender...hopefully it won't be too obvious, we adjusted it the best we could.

Wish I would have known...

Re: Doors 1/4 inch longer?

At least now I know what to expect when I put my fenders on. I just got done putting a set of 85 doors on my 76.
