6 banger engines?

Any value to 6 cyl engines of this vintage? {50-55}. My brother used these a lot in his rebuilds. They've been setting around for the past 10yrs since he passed away. I've got to clean up my space and am debating wheth're to scrap them or try to sell them. One's a short block and looks like its been rebuilt, the other's I think are complete, I'll have to look again. Not sure if they are Chevy or GMC.

Re: 6 banger engines?

Probably more interest over at stovebolts.com, they tend to be stock restoration orientated. If you have a 302 CI GMC it might be worth something. After trying to sell the 58 235 I took out of my 59 off and on for 25 years I took it to the scrap yard this spring. All I wanted was the same price I would get for scraping it so someone would use it. The 216 and 235's show up on CL here quite a bit for a couple of hundred dollars but I suspect they do not sell. Part of the problem in my location, to much to ship and to far for most people to drive to pick one up.

Re: 6 banger engines?

I think a 216 or splash 235 would be of interest only to someone doing a stock resto. However, the full pressure 235s are decent engines and make good swaps into AD and older trucks without requiring any cutting. They have no problems keeping up with traffic if you give them civilized gearing.

Re: 6 banger engines?

Warren beat me to it, there is always someone on the HAMB hunting a 235 or other vintage six.
Make sure you post an introduction though before posting the add. And if you have billet parts or wheels on your truck don't make mention of that.

Re: 6 banger engines?

That should read stovebolt.com.

The plural form goes to a place that sells literal stovebolts.

Here are a couple more you might want to check out. Both will require you to open an account, but I don't believe there is any charge for placing an ad.
