Mexican truck beds different?

I just got back from a school trip to Mexico, ahhhh. Anyway, I noticed the truck beds had a seam down the side of them. The taillights and assembly were totaly different too. I think I have a picture of one, but not digital and I dont have a scanner. Anybody else know of this?, I just thought it was weird. Seen lots of weird different cars and trucks.

Just got back from Cancun and saw a tricked out '69 down there in BRIGHT yellow and lots of chrome. Not my style but it sure caught my eye..

It had the standard trim but was probably repro since it was definately not factory paint.

I noticed the same thing while down there. I noticed the tail lights were different but I didn't see the seam. I didn't have my digital cam either. Would be interesting to get some pictures though. I wonder where they were made.

Im getting my pictures back friday, maybe get one scanned by monday. It was weird seeing the different cars there. Dodge still makes, or has made 90s body style, Charger. I saw a few of them there too, kind of ugly, just a Dodge blazer really.

For years after the big three discontinued models of cars and trucks here in the states, South American countries like Brazil if I remember right would buy the old tooling and manufacture them as new there. Hope that makes sense. Wootdog

They introduced those Tahoe's as Mexico production only, and I think some were even supercharged from the factory.

Dodge hads its own version called Ram Charger.

and they don't have any future plans of retiring it any time soon, they actually have two versions of the beetle, the one more "luxurious" as it'is currently known in the States and the "old" beetle, which is mostly used as taxis cabs

They introduced the s-10 blazer in some asian countries a couple of years ago as "brand new model" even though the it came out here in the mid 90's.

I did notice that in some big dealerships there was the old style beetles inside on display next to new ones, we wondered why they would sell old used beetles next to new ones.

So what keeps someone from going down there and getting a new"old bug" for something like six grand instead of fixing up an old rusted out one here? I am sure the same goes for some other vehicles?????

Vehicles imported into the US have to meet US emmisions and safety standards for year they were manufactured. Very difficult to do for later model VW's. Iv'e seen a few late 80's mexican bugs that made it through and were converted before the emmisions add on that was done in the late 80's to prevent the import of "grey market" cars. I know one guy who drove into Mexico a few years ago in a crapped out '70 bug. When he returned from mexico that crapped out bug looked just like a showroom new bug except for the license plate and vin tag .
