I got an 83 suburban with a 350 and a 700r4 in it. The trans and motor have both been rebuilt, and are running closet to 20,000 on them. While i was driving this weekend I noticed that the 1-2 and the 2-3 shift caused teh engine to lug.

It felt almost like the tourque converter was locking at all the shifts, and that with a little gas it would unlock and resume normal driving. It is shifting at all the right points, and not slipping any.

Is this is common problem. Any advice on how to fix, or is this something for a shop to do. The warranty is up btw.

Thanks all.

Re: 700R4 strange shifts?

Could be Could be Could be. LOL

Hard to say, I'd have a shop test drive it, maybe the TV cable has gone haywire or something. My 700R was a little hard for me to get used to, took it back to my tranny guy a couple times. He had me drive his 32 and 40 Fords and I felt better to feel them shifting the same way. Mine has a Corvette converter and servo, it always felt like it was slipping but the tach said otherwise. Well, the non stock stall will slip somewhat I guess. He did have to adjust my TV cable for me after I changed cable brackets and installed a new cable with the correct end on it.

I do LOVE my 700R though.

Re: 700R4 strange shifts?

Mine was doing something similar, put some dura-lube in it.

Mine was doing pretty much same thing but after about a week it would lock up but it wouldnt unlock, even when ud stop u could feel the convertor still locked up trying to push the truck while the brakes where engaged, and my lockup isnt even hooked up. put that stuff in it and it shifts great and isnt acting up anymore.
