GMC Fender Question for fitting 68 Nose?????
OK I tried to find what I'm looking for and haven't really had any luck, I have a 70 GMC, And I really like the front off the 68. So my question is can I use my fenders for this or do I need 67-68 fenders? I also plan on running the 67-8 hood I know I'll need the filler piece and what not, but other than filling and redoing the trim holes will it work?? Thanks.

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
OK so my 70 fenders will work for a 68 hood. I'm not swapping to a chev nose, but keeping my 4 eyes. What is different about the rad support?

I'm interested in the core support question also.

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
I recently asked this question as I recently picked up a 68 gmc swb that needs a new support and I just picked up a 72 support today and there truly is not much of a difference other than what livrat stated in my thread, there are threaded holes for the valance.. otherwise it is the same.. grille lines up perfect with the 72 bucket mounts..
here was my thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=410478

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
Well that's no big deal. A drill can fix that. Does anybody know how much of a difference there is between the "eyebrow" moldings as far as mount goes? Do they use the same holes or do I need to fill and redrill my 70 fenders to fit 68 trim?

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
All the GMC eyebrow mouldings use the same holes..
All that you absolutely need to convert a 72 GMC to the 67/68 style GMC is a 67/68 hood (either chev or GMC), 67/68 upper grill bar (GMC) and 67/68 hood latch (GMC). |

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
How different are the hood latches? Are they easily acquired? Is it just the latch, or the whole piece that I'd need?

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
The 67/68 GMC hood latch is taller than the 69/72, if you are not going to use a lower valance you can use the 72 grill support, (bolts to the bottom of the hood latch,
I do not think the 67/68 GMC hood latch is being reproduced, you would need to keep a look out for someone parting a 67/68 GMC |

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
I was checking ECE and Manes and they sell them used and new. But they list them as 67-72 GMC, 67-8 Chev, 69-70 Chev, and 71-72 Chev, so Now I'm kinda confused. they list a different latch support is that all I'd need to change?? Livrat would you mind taking a pic of you latch for me so I can compare it to my 70?

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
The 67/68 Chev latches are different from 67/68 GMC.. the both are the same height but use different release lever, the chev one tips forward and down.. the GMC makes a jog towards the driver side to clear the center of the grill
Here is a pic of a 67/68 chev one.. notice the release lever http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=406116 http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=381556 Left picture is a 69/70 chev, center pic is a 71/72 chev, right pic is 67/68 chev (you can see it is taller) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=343052 scroll down to Post #13 it shows a 67/68 GMC latch (notice the lever offset to the drivers side) Last edited by Livrat; 07-06-2010 at 01:26 AM. |

Re: GMC Fender Question?????
Thanks for the links. If you click on the options for which latch you want it only lists the GMC as 67-72 which is why I asked.
