What is the best way to get the wood out of the bed?

Re: wood removal
My most recent one was rotten. I took it off of the truck and braced it up on its side. I beat the wood out and used an angle grinder to cut the remaining bolts. I'll try to find some pictures for you. Don't bother trying to salvage the steel strips. They are cheaply and easliy replaces.

Re: wood removal
all the wood beds i've had were filled with holes and rotted wood . just wakin the wood with a claw hammer removed it and an angle grinder with cutoff wheel to get the old metal remnenants out and to clean up the crossills and perimeter angles

Re: wood removal
My wooden bed came apart in about a full day of using a grinder with a c utoff wheel... a lot of swearing, and banged up knuckles.
But seriously the cutoff wheel and grinder was the easiest way of taking it apart. 75% of the carriage bolts did not want to let that bed go. |

Re: wood removal
I assume that you are talking about the wood bed itself, not a load of firewood!!
To remove the entire bed Just remove the bolts with the offset washers... If you are removing just the wood then leave pieces under the outer edges and wheel wells. The cross sills remain on the frame unless the entire bed is coming off. Here pics of my bed removal. maybe they will shed some light for you...
