one ton swap

Hope some one can tell me if swapping the whole front end and rear axle/suspension from a 70's van based motorhome to my 67 c30 is "easy" or at least doable. My goal is to change to a different size wheel while keeping the load rating. Besides, tires for the 17.5in wheels are hard to find.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but why couldn't you just replace your wheels with the size you want?

It is all possible but sounds like alot of work just for a tire size change.. 1 ton dually wheels in 16" are quite plentifull and most will bolt on yours.. the only real differences you need to look out for is lug stud diameter, yours is more that likely 7/16" and alot of late 70's wheels either 5/8 or 9/16..

Now if your looking to upgrade brakes to disc and change rear ends for a better gear ratio that's a different story.. The Chev (P30) van/motorhome chassis front suspension is different and will not work.. the rear axle would work with a spring perch change..

The easiest way would be to use a 71-91 Chev 1ton dually front suspension and matching rear end. (again the rear would need a spring perch change).

The only rear axle that will bolt in directly is one from a 67 thru 72 1 ton..

run a 2000+ gm 11.5 ring gear 14 bolt. it will give you a wider track width in the rear and disc brakes.

I do want to change wheel size but what I find out there relies on the studs for support and the current wheels rely on the center hole for suppurt, thus what I find out there lowers the truck's weight rating. Besides, tires for 17.5" wheels are limited at best.
