I really need to get cracking on a 5.3L swap. Would've had the motor in hand, but my gaming computer died, and I'm addicted, and spent too much money to replace it! Too many addictions!

I really don't know what the point of this post is, I'm just bored and needed something to do!

Yeah, I don't think my 3.08 rear axle ratio is helping things.

Though, I do think the truck might be pulling timing (TBI), as the truck will initially take off well, then it feels like it loses steam, then once it hits 3k RPM, it takes off again. I might be due for a knock sensor replacement.

I had my old 305 running like a champ. It could take on a stock 350 and whoop it. Even with 3.08 gears. Your truck needs a little work. I have my tool box handy.

3.08s may be great for the highway, but I do all my driving around town, and as a matter of fact, the truck really cannot spin a tire in the rain with a peg leg...I don't think my stock size Michelin tires are THAT good. Clearly something isn't right with the engine. I've timed it, replaced spark plugs/wires/PCV valve/air filter/fuel filter/etc. I don't really need your comments in here if you are going to be rude.

agreed, the 84 c10 had a 305 and would not break em loose too good from a dead stop, but in wet weather or around a corner done decent, BUT it has 2.73's in it as well and a th350 long tail. I had a mild 350 in my 85 mcss and when we sold it we swapped motors between it and the 84c10, well the 84 c10 still sucks and the 350 done good in the mcss, it broke em loose decent on dead stop and dry out, and became wicked as it got wetter out or you were on curves, or used the stall convertor. Well needless to say the 305 in the mcss that came from the 84c10 is nasty. The mcss has 205/75's and 3.42's and it's mean, you can have a rolling start and hit the gas and burn them for over 30 foot. it's got a th350 with a stock torque converter and a b&m stage 2 shift kit. From a dead stop no brakes you can just about smoke em as long as you want.

Don't even attempt to get on it coming from a curve, it'll spin you around or get sideways quick.

in conclusion, best 305 I ever seen or had, made me a 305 believer, I'd run it againist any stock to mild 350 anyday.

We did had a 305 in an 86 k10 with 3.08s and a 700r4 it still sucked, esp on take off hardly any pulling power to turn em over. That is until it started knocking. Once it started to knock, we came out of a carryout onto the road, which was a curve of course and was just a tad damp, man it was smoking that one tire off for over 30 feet. We knew it was time to rebuild it then, you know how it goes, they run best right before they die. Plus it was already knocking, had a 350 waiting for it and it ran alot better with the 350.

I take it you never had a worn out motor? I've seen plenty that would not turn tires over wet or dry, if something is bad like motor or trans or rear end it'd happen all the time.

I had an '83 Caprice Classic with a 305 that was so tired it would barely make it down the road, even less spin the wheels.

85BOWTIE, I believe your thinking of a brand new out of the box 305 with a brand new tranny and everything going for it. For all you know, many of the 305s on this board may be just like mine was, about done.

When my dad gave me his old '95 silverado, the 350 in it was strong as the day it came off the lot, but do to a bad transmission, i could barely do the speed limits around town and eventually it gave up going up a bridge.

This isn't a perfect world, and not everyone can afford a top notch motor/tranny for their vehicle. It would be best, if you knew all the facts about someone or something before you start calling people retards, making yourself look in the process.

I never mentioned a brand new 305. I never mentioned top of the line equipment. Where are you getting this? Do you guys just make stuff up as you go?

I also am very familiar with worn out motors. I currently have several '80s model GM cars lined up for some demo derby's with very worn out 305/307 motors that would have no problem spinning tires in the rain. My truck is the perfect example of a worn out 305, not even driveable when I parked it. Yet, it still had enough in it to at least spin tires in the rain. But that isn't the point of my post.

My point is the ridiculously stupid threads that go on and on while threads that actually need good advice always kind of dissappear. Come on, the thread on "How often do you wash your truck"? How about the thread claiming 15 year old gas was still usable and perfectly fine to use?

I sound dumb? Then maybe the advice I've given to people who needed and benefitted from it should just figure things out for themselves so I don't sound so dumb to you. Or better yet, I'll just forget about this board altogether and just continue the slow progress on the ground up resto of my truck and not share any of it on here.
