Top removal?
I want to pull the top on my blazer but im not sure if I can yet. I have installed all new poly body bushings but my rocker boxes are completely rusted out. My pass side rocker panel and floor are solid but the drivers side is in bad shape. If I pull the top now am I gonna run into major problems? I know every blazer on here w/ the top off isnt 100% restored or pristine original condition. Thanks for your help...

I'd be worried that your body will start to sag and fold in half if you opened the doors with no top and no torsion boxes.

New mounts are good. There are other trucks on the board with rusted out torsion boxes running topless. If you're just going to be driving around the streets, you'll probably get a little sag and maybe have some door bind if you part on an unlevel surface. You'll probably also have a hard time putting the top back on.

Looks like im not goin topless anytime soon... im too afraid of door binding issues. I was hoping there was someone on here who had the guts to try it and tell me to go for it. Oh well. Maybe next spring I will have my repairs done and can join the rest of yall havin a blast with the top off.

Go for it! Like I said, there are other trucks on the board running topless with rusted out rocker boxes.

My top doesn't fit do to sagging, and I am still able to open and close the doors. Mine sat without the top bolted, driver side door open, and front clip off it for 10 years. Body bushings are gone, bu I bet the metal around them is too. And like I said, my doors still open and close.

i think you will be ok with the top off, the frame carries the body. unless your body mounts are rotted away.

If I decide to pull the top off and things go crazy will I be able to get it back to the point it is now (doors work good and gaps are nice)?
 Fear of the unknown is crippling!

I Have never had my hard top on in 3 yrs since I got my 70 blazer. The tortion boxes have rot and the body mounts are original (shot). I only use a soft top. The doors only bind if I am on a really uneaven surface like one wheel parked on a hill, but it goes right back if I move the truck. The PO filled the tortion boxes with spary in insulation or tuff stuff. I think thats a dumb thing to do, but it may have stiffened it a little??? Take the top off if you are not doing offroad antics its the way the blazer is meant to be.
