1972 402ci Oil pan removal

I'm in the find a leak fix a leak phase of maintenance and have determined the oil pan gasket to be the problem. I have no means of removing the engine and would like some advice from the pros out there on the best technique for pan removal with the engine in place. Looks like I have about 2-3 inches clearance with the front cross member, but I have no idea if the oil pick-up or crank will be in the way.

Re: 1972 402ci Oil pan removal

I have the same problem with the 69. I know there is not enough clearence to just unbolt the pan and repair the gasket. I was going to use a lift up top, unbolt the engine mounts and raise it as high as possible-I think it will clear, just watch the distributor. I hope someone else has a better/easier way to fix it! good luck

Re: 1972 402ci Oil pan removal

Some people that don't have a lift, unbolt the motor mounts and jackup the engine then put blocks between the mounts to hold the engine up.

Like said above becareful of the distributor.
