Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
And when we finally got the engine out. i was going to rebuild it but after tearin into it we found out it has been bored 40 over already and was about to sling a main bearing and whoever did the machine work before did nothing right. so i think i will start over with a tristar 350 short block and maybe vortec heads a saved the right amount of money for the engine i just dont know what to do yet and dont make a hole lot a week for great parts.

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
looks good... How big of wheels are you gonna run with the 35's or the stock rallies? Also a sport bumper would look awesome!

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
Search "sport bumper" in the 73-87 section.. you will find a lot of information.... you would need an 81-91 style. and you can get them off of blazers and suburbans.... usually its the 2wd guys with them.. but i've seen some 4x4's with them that look awesome.. so much cleaner of a look IMO. i would run one if i had a box bed

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
Very nice truck pal. I say LIFT it. I have a 84 lifted 6'' with 35'' tires. I love the crap out of it. I do alot of hunting and playing in the mudd though. Good luck with the truck.

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
thanks very much its a very slow build right now tho because all the money i have saved for lift and tires is going to the engine first because i wanna be able to drive it first instead of look at it lifted on the side of the road broke down hahaha and yours looks great to

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
That truck is awesome already. I agree with going wth the Vortec heads. They are awesome. Make sure to get the matching Vortec intake manifold and you'll be set. Will make tons of power even on a stock bottom end. Good luck with your build. Cool to see more and more people from NC popping up.

the day the rear end broke you might be able to notice the rear axel is pushed out a little.

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
Here is some work ive done on my engine first putting my scat crank in with clevit bearings.
next is checking how far the pistons come out over the deck witch was a good bit if i can remember it was like 16 thousands or so. then one piston wrist pin and a piston rod it looks so shiny, i guess cause its the first engine i have ever built lol.

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
lovin the engine build! im learning up on engine building and almost going to start rebuilding mine.
outa curiousity what heads and combustion chamber size are you using? it looks like you are running flat top pistons? .016" protrusion over the deck with flat tops almost seams scary for valve and piston to head clearance. looks like itll have alot of compression!!! Nothing beats a ****load of Torque!! good on ya! |

Re: Start of the 85 Chevy K10
Thank you sir! they are actually dish pistons and the combustion chamber size is 64cc they seem like a pretty decent set of heads for the pirce they are rhs pro torker vortec style. the only thing i dont like so mo much is my valve covers were 120$$$ since they are a centerbolts.
