1970 4x4 axle ratio

I'm looking at buying a '70 3/4 ton 4x4 292ci with 4 speed. I haven't gone to look at the truck yet, maybe next week, but I was wondering what gears you guys think would be in there, like 4.10?

With a six in it I would guess 4.56 or 5.13.

Re: 1970 4x4 axle ratio

not likely to be a 5.13.
4.56 and 4.10 are the two most common 3/4 ton rear ends. Big blocks usually got a 3.54, and some have popped up in inline 6 trucks too.
The 5.13 was standard in a dual rear wheel equipped truck, and optional in other models, and not many people opted for it.
My lit shows very little on the 4X4 trucks so I am of minimal help here.

Re: 1970 4x4 axle ratio

Thanks a lot, I kinda figured it would be low like that, I actually wanted a 1/2 ton, but they're like hen's teeth around here. If I get it i'll be looking for some 1/2 ton axles i think, or changing the gear ratio to get 3.73 or something, i'm not stump pulling or anything.
