wanting to swap a '96 LT-1/4L60E into my 69
I have a wrecked 96 Z28 that has 44k miles on it and I would like to swap the engine/trans into my 69 C/10. The car runs without any issues now. I've searched but haven't found many threads on the subject. I would like to use the LT-1's A/C compressor too if possible. My truck isn't factory air so I'm guessing a retrofit kit would be needed? To use the 4L60E, will I need to purchase another crossmember and have the driveshaft shortened? The truck currently has a 350, turbo 350 and a 2 piece driveshaft.
I already have a LS1 Camaro SS so I don't want to swap an LS based engine into the truck. I got a good deal on this setup and that is why I want to use it.

You will need to relocate the A/C compressor or use the Corvette pulley system. You will also need the rest of the A/C equpment. You can retrofit the stock stuff into it fairly easy, or go with an aftermarket kit.
Your shift linkage will work and you will be able to select all the gears manually, but the 1-2-3 gears won't match up with your shift indicator. Drive will and that was all I cared about. I'm assuming long bed due to the 2 piece driveshaft. I belive you will have to have the front part shortened. You can move the tranny crossmember and use it. Also, get some 6 cylinder frame mounts and use them. It moves the engine back further and gives you more room to play with your induction system. |

TH350s came in a couple of different lengths and one of them is about 30" (bellhousing face to rear seal), which is the same as a 4L60. If you have that one you can keep your present driveshaft. Your present crossmember will work if you move it back and drill new holes for it in the frame rails.

I understand using the vette pulley system, but I can use all of the Camaro's underhood A/C components, right, or do I will need the a/c stuff from a vette too? The camaro has everything on it at the moment. Have you done this swap and put aftermarket a/c on your truck? My truck wasn't an original air truck so I would have to use an aftermarket kit. I guess these companies have custom length a/c hoses to attach their kits to an existing compressor?

My truck wasn't an original a/c cab but I put the stock a/c system in it with the exception of the ball vents. I went with an aftermarket vent.
Your should be able to use your Camaro stuff. There is also a bracket that relocates the Camaro compressor but I don't remember who makes it, maybe Street and Performance. Most any decent A/C shop can fab up some hoses for you. It might be good to get to know one of them before you start to avoid any false starts. Good Luck |

Re: wanting to swap a '96 LT-1/4L60E into my 69
I haven't started the swap yet. I bought another truck, a 70 stepside for its frame, since my truck was wrecked at some point in its life. I drive it now, but would rather have a better frame when I restore it. I had a list up of things I was going to purchase, and then I had engine problems with my 67 Camaro. After I get it back together, I will start up on my truck again. It will probably be a month or so.
