Rear springs/shackles bushings...

Hi! I have a "little" problem: the new rear springs (56"), comes with factory rubber bushings fitted on (1-3/8" bushings, fitted in 1-3/4" outer sleeves, fitted in springs eyes - after I measure the diameters on the springs, I assume they have the dimensions mentioned above!). My question is: to keep or not keep the factory rubber bushings?!
If I decide to replace them, what type you recommend me to use (1991 Chevrolet V2500 Suburban Silverado): 1-3/8" bushings in 1-3/4" outer sleeves, fitted in springs eyes, or 1-3/4" bushings fitted directly in springs eyes? What kind of bushings are better (small or large OD)? There is any differences between Suburban and Suburban Silverado rear springs/shackles bushings (I saw on some sites, some mentions about!)?!

Re: Rear springs/shackles bushings...

What are your intentions for the truck? New rear OE rubber bushings are fine for normal use. It's not until the truck is 20+ years old that they are problematic. If you want to upgrade the bushing quality, Energy Suspension offers polyurethane bushings that will have less deflection.

Check Summit Racing for prices or 'kits'.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Rear springs/shackles bushings...

The truck will get a 2.5" suspension lift kit with 4 springs and 33" wheels. The suspension lift kit is Skyjacker and has come with polyurethane bushings on front leaf springs, factory rubber bushings on rear leaf springs and no frame shackles bushings.
I like to put polyurethane bushings on rear springs too and on frame shackles, so, I ask if is better to keep or not the rubber bushings.
The other question, was about the poly bushings dimensions, because I saw the Summit offer and, I look yesterday all day long and don't know what I need to order! Today, I found an old shackle and I can measure the bushings, so, the real values are: 1-1/2" on frame, 1-1/2" in 1-3/4" outer sleeve on springs, or, 1-3/4" directly on springs eyes.
If you can see, I have two options for springs bushings, so, I ask you again: which one is better; with small outer diameter, or with large outer diameter? Is better to use 1-1/2" in 1-3/4" outer sleeve, or, 1-3/4" directly on springs eyes?

Re: Rear springs/shackles bushings...

I wish I could answer your dimension question regarding the poly bushings but I'm not up to speed on 'what's possible' in the 4x4 world.

I highly recommend contacting the order/tech line for Summit & see if they can narrow your options. Another suggestion would be one of the 4x4 web sites to see what bushing kits they might offer for your specific vehicle.
