88 blazer tbi problem

i got a 88 gmc 350 tbi i just bought. it used to be a buddys, When you started it it would run for a few seconds and die. if you held the throttle down it would run and act as if it were loading up. He put a fuel pressure regulator on, fuel filter and plugs. Now it will start for about 2 seconds and dies, after those few seconds its not gettin fuel to the tbi unit.

to me it sounds like a fuel pump. anyone got any ideas?

Re: 88 blazer tbi problem

sisters 91 rs started doing this as well, but new fuel pump (2 years less than 10k miles). Started every time till we let it sit for a couple months after she got T boned, then needed to move it to get the trailer out, and wouldnt fire, primed it and she ran, but then died out.

More than likely in tank fuel pump has captured output hose. If its has original fuel pump it is probably tired as well. The easiest way to verify this is to perform fuel pressure check. Fuel pressure check involves installing gauge and forcing fuel pump to operate continuously by applying +12 Volt to the FP relay test connector (red wire with single 1/4" sply). Stock TBI needs 13 PSI for normal operation - you probably have around 1-3 PSI.

#1 SIGN A FUEL PUMP IS GETTING WEAK FUEL SMELL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THRU THE FENDER U CAN SMELL IT WHEN U OPEN THE PASSENGER DOOR

Yeah Sounds like the fuel pump i have had 1 of my 87 trucks die out in the drive way and then not have a problem for a week than i parked it and it wouldnt crank lol i have 3 tbi trucks the fuel pressure is suppose to be 13-15 psi ideally 14 constant would be great but they go up and down the psi isnt constant u can put a FP reg and put it all the way to 15 but no more or u will have more problems
