Nother Q. Step sill protectors?
I cant find anything that I can apply to my step sills to protect the paint, i dont want it to get scratched and nicked from people getting in and out. but I want something that i can take off and change as needed and it not leave a sticky mess on the paint either.
Any ideas? Thanks!! junk

Try a small piece of 3M double stick Dbl sided molding tape two small pieces an inch long would hold it real secure. Available at a good paint dealer. Just a little bit of that stuff on a clean surface works wonders. Other than that your talking screws which I know is not what your interested in.

How about a flexible magnetic sheet?
Paint it with Vinyl paint or cover with thin sheet metal? http://www.magnet4less.com/index.php?cPath=4_18

Re: Nother Q. Step sill protectors?
On my cargo van I took it to a sign shop and had them apply clear vinyl over the paint. It has held up well so far.

x2 on a magnetic strip you could take off at shows.
Or for something more permanent, get some skateboard grip tape. I think they make some transparent, too. Or just make everyone go barefoot...

Griot's Garage sells protective film that can be removed and replaced.

Re: Nother Q. Step sill protectors?
I looked for the same kind of solution on my 69, I finally just applied some 2" wide grip tape there and left it, I figured anything I put over the sill is going to eventually scratch the paint so I may as well put something there that won't scratch (itself) and looks decent. It's been there for ten years and still looks new.

Re: Nother Q. Step sill protectors?
No, I used some black 3M grip tape, I have seen the clear stuff on other items and it looked kinda ugly after awhile, I don't know if the clear I saw was of any quality, it may have been some cheap stuff but it showed the dirt pretty fast and looked kinda cloudy. If you do use grip tape get some good stuff and clean the area with alcohol before putting it on, it makes it very permanent. Make sure it's where you want it also, once you apply the 3M grip tape it's there for good!
