Came across this thing today.......

Back in '89 I had a '70 longbed stepside and always thought they were cool, and pretty rare as I don't recall seeing too many others, even back then. So imagine my surprise when I saw this '71 K20 pop up on Craigslist about an hour away. It was sporting a fairly fresh 454, with a little bit bigger cam and Edelbrock intake and some other little goodies. I thought I remembered these things as having 9ft beds, but this one is like 8.5ft. Am I remembering wrong or has this one been monkeyed with? The guy said the transfer case was giving him some trouble, but it definitely sounded good. Figured I'd share a pic of it..........

Actually there were 6, 8, and 9 foot stepsides. Very few 9 foot stepsides.

So is the 8 1/2' actually the 9 footer? The proportions look right on the bed, that's why I was wondering.

I hope you don't get a lot of rain there or the gas tank is going to be full of water...

1/2 ton trucks could have the 6 1/2 foot or the 8 foot beds
3/4 tons only had 8 feet beds.
only one tons were 9 foot beds.

I went out and got the tape measure the seller had left in the truck and went to remeasure it, then I noticed the first several inches were gone from the tape and the little L shaped piece was stapled on. LOL. Here I thought I was losing my mind on the length of these things.
