why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

I saw this truck this weekend at a car show I had seen it around but had never had a chance to snap a pict. overall its in pretty good shape but no offense its just I dont understand what he is going for with that box on there I have seen plenty of the early ninties boxes on them which I dont really like either but Ill take one of them before this. If this truck is a members id be willing to help ya get the right step side box on there.

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

It is possible that the bed on the truck was trash and couldn't afford the price of one in good condition. He may have had this one available for free.

I do agree that it looks somewhat incongrous.

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

I prefer the correct beds as well, but when money is tight it is a lot easier to grab a solid early 90 bed for dirt cheap than buy one of ours in bad shape for 500+ If you look at my project you can see mine had one on it when I bought it. Got lucky and found an original for trade.

I saw him on the side street at the show in Emmett. He has half of 2 good trucks.

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

When I bought my truck I had the same set up. I bought it not running and didn't know much about the trucks at the time. I bought it from advise I got on the board and once I posted a photo (a day or two later), that is when a board member told me it was the wrong year bed. So it's possible he just didn't know when he bought it.

Given that this truck isn't a beater and was built with this bed on hand, I say leave it as it looks pretty cool, at least to me. It's quite a bit of work and money to change it over now at this stage, just to change the bed over would more than likely require a complete repaint of the entire truck which is some $$.

That is one of the cool things about these trucks. They are completely inter-changeable and they can be built on a budget or the sky is the limit and they are still cool either way.

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

i hate seeing a box that isnt 67-72 because the wheel arches dont match.. like when they put a 88-98 chevy box on it it looks goovy cuz like here the rear is squared at the top and rounded up front

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

Like some of the others posted....
I think it's mainly a money issue.

Savable original beds are hard to find in the rustbelt &
new beds are thousands of dollars.
As a poor boy,I'd rather drive my truck with a bed that's not for that year
or a wood bed than not drive her at all.

IMO that looks way better than a 90's bed.....it is period correct with the proper tailgate.

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

I also like it better than the early 90s bed. Someone mentioned the wheel arches. I have actually seen a few of the early 90 beds where they cut the wheel arches to match the front of the truck and that did help the look some.

And the added bonus of making a correct truck look way better when parked next to something like in the original post..

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it looks all that bad. I have seen far worse looking trucks that had the "correct" box. And I mean worse by intent, not neglect.

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

Not a fan of using non period correct beds at all, may be custom and different, but it's ugly in my eyes, much like chrome tail lights, flame paint jobs, wire wheels, velour interiors, and so on and so forth. A period correct box and solid paint would do wonders for that truck.

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

Like others have said, I have seen a lot worse. That bed would not be my first choice, but it may not have been his first choice either -- just his best choice given budget, time, convenience, whatever.

1LoC10 has the right idea...

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?

dude could atleast fix the falling off the truck look it has going.. I'm guessing with the paint job that money wasn't the issue, just his preference on the fenders maybe

Isn't the only real difference is the fenders? the box i think is the same from the tf until 86?

Re: why put the wrong year box on one of our trucks?why?
