What did you get done? 07/18/10 edition

I think Bob is out of pocket again, so let get this thing going for him.

I worked this weekend so I didn't get a chance to do as much as I wanted to my 77. I am working on a dual compressor set up, along with consolidating some existing wiring and making space for future projects. For more info on this topic go here- Dual Compressor Wiring

What did you get done?

Pressure washed and detailed a 09 polaris rzr for my father in law, transported it to a buyer, punished my liver each night and chased a homeless person selling a lawnmower away from my sister-in-laws house. Roswell NM is a strange place.

The heat here in KS was killer this weekend. Changed out my Drivers side fender on the 79 and managed to slice my thumb pretty deep trying to steal fender clips from a donor the hard (fast) way and it bit me in the... well...thumb. Heat made it so I couldn't do anything else on the open cement slab I was working on.

I set the Ostrich free. It's been several months since I covered my door panels with Ostrich Emu, decided I'd had enough. Ripped everything off, cleaned the panels and glued down some black and slate tweed. I also (finally) installed door pulls in the armrest. If the trim behind my window crank looks familiar, bathtub drain covers. I love buying HotRod parts from Lowes. LOL.

Re: What did you get done? 07/18/10 edition

I cleaned up the '84 K10 and tucked it away safely back into the shop. I drove it to work one day and it got covered in sand (wind and dirt parking lot). Then Saturday morning I loaded up the trailer and took off to Grand Prairie to pick up my '80 model suburban I bought off CL. Ofcourse nothing for me ever goes easy, I had a blowout on the trailer in Sanger. Luckily I found a mom and pop tire shop that was open and was back on the road in about 30 min. No, I didn't have a spare, it's not my trailer. Plus upon closer inspection I noticed the trailer had passenger tires on it rather than actual trailer tires. I was by myself so loading the burb (non running) onto the trailer was not a easy task plus it was 100 degrees in DFW that day. I finally got it loaded and stopped off at Twin Peaks for a beer, or two and a burger before heading back home.

Mostly worked, withering heat was no fun. Dinner & movie date night Sat with my wife. Sunday afternoon I changed out the starter on my '97 GMC. I also meant to get the A/C fix done, but it was too hot and I'd had enough. A few more days of driving around w/out A/C, I'll deal with it.

I am still packing up to move. I did notice that my truck grew a set of trim rings while it is in storage.

Re: What did you get done? 07/18/10 edition

Picked up a 60/40 split bench from a 95 extended cab, back seat too. Got them cleaned up pretty good in the shop, but I'll probably have them steam cleaned too. Rounded up some 1" square tubing to make a frame for them, and I'll pick up a couple sets of slide tracks from my old employer this week. Instead of modifying the existing mounting hardware, I'll just make a rectangle frame and mount the new slide tracks to it, then everything will be square and level all the way across.

They look really dirty and dingy in this pic, but they are cleaning up real nice.

Also finished up building a tow bar for my Dad's little Kia Sportage so they can pull it behind their motorhome. Of course, I had to test it out!

Re: What did you get done? 07/18/10 edition

thrusday my bro-in-law stopped by and gave me a hand switched out th350's in the 84. Took out the acting up long tail and put in a short tail. Friday went to Ky and found a huge junkyard that had alot of 87 and older vehicles, bought a longer driveshaft to fit the 84. Got it all finished up that day and testing it a lil' biut that night, back and forth in the driveway, took it for a test spin sat. morning, ran great, shifted good no noises or vibrations. Then sunday adjusted the shifter linkage, had to take a little fluid out of the trans, I overfilled it by half quart. Then I adjusted the kickdown cable, adjusted the timing, and tuned the carb with a vacuum gauge.

I wanted to wash, detail, and change the oil in my Tahoe Limited this weekend. But that didn't happen seeing as it was 116 degrees outside.

Well got my son out there and he changed the fuel filter and got the tank all cleaned up looking good. Oh and we lost the spare tire holder going down the road heading home I guess the rope the PO used finally had enough.

Re: What did you get done? 07/18/10 edition

I put a new tailgate latch in the Blazer and a new manual window crank with a new lock mechanism that I had the locksmith rework so it'd work with my door lock key. Lubed up the regulator with white grease. It all works as it should now. Still need to finish polishing out the tailgate band.

EDIT: Big thanks to Mr.Chevy4x4 for supplying the latch parts I was missing from a donor truck of his.

Finally managed to meet up with my bud that is doing a ground up on a 65' Malibu SS convertible. Sweet a** f' ing ride. He gave me a refresher course on some body work as well as some info on Muncie that he is running. Borrowed his engine hoist at the same time and spent the rest of the weekend in the garage sweating..........my in-laws were in town to see the girls so, my father in-law helped out with a few outstanding projects around the house
