Can someone measure column length for me?

Does anyone have a steering column pulled out of a truck and could measure the lenght for me? Like from the front of the column hub (not including steering wheel) to the bottom of the column (not including shaft).

This would be a big help, long story short, I no longer have any 73-87's but i have a backhalfed '51 ford that has an 80's gm column but i don't know if its a car or truck column and its kind of fubar so I want to swap it out with another one.

Any help would be great, thanks,

Re: Can someone measure column length for me?

anyone that can just measure their column for me? doesn't have to be out of the truck, can just measure from the hub to the firewall and then from the firewall to the end under the hood. Would really appreciate the info

thanks

56" from the steering wheel mounting face to the tip of the splined coupler that engages the steering gear box.

Re: Can someone measure column length for me?

thanks man, but can you subtract the length of that intermediate shaft. I need to know the length of the column itself, so just the lenght inside the cab and the short stub that goes through the firewall,

33-1/2" not including the output shaft.

Re: Can someone measure column length for me?

Thanks man, mine only comes out to 30" so now that I know that a truck column is 33.5" looks like mine came out of an 80's gm car, that narrows my search down quite a bit so thanks for the help!

Glad I could help.

If you asked a couple days ago I could have given you the numbers on a G-body column as a point of reference but it is back in the Malibu so its not so easy to do now.
