Hatch handle rebuild
Hi guys, I'm trying to get my hatch put back together, but can't seem to get the hatch handle(or what is left of it) apart. Does the spring and ears come off of the shaft? There was an e-clip that held it all in the bracket, but I can't seem to get the ears and spring to slide off of the old handle. Any one done a rebuild yet? I have a garage door handle I'm going to put in it. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Hatch handle rebuild
Yup they do come off the shaft, just not all that easily.

Re: Hatch handle rebuild
Yes but it is a tight fit and over the years they become pressed on. Spray it several times with WD or some other oil. I have removed several by taking a c clamp and putting one end on the shaft and the other on the bracket mounted in the hatch. Its kinda of cocked but it will apply pressure which will break it free. I am sure others might have ideas

Re: Hatch handle rebuild
Thanks guys, I'll try soaking it in PB blaster or something.

Re: Hatch handle rebuild
So, the PB blaster worked great, the shaft popped out pretty easy. Except for the part where I broke the ear off of the linkage connection! !@@$%^&%#$ There was more cussing, but you get the gist. So, guess now, I'll try to build a replacement collar and set of ears for the rods to connect to. Its always something isn't it?
